End of Year 2014

Kia Ora Room 2

Guess who I met last night at a meeting?  This will give you a clue...  It was a meeting about children who have been good! 

Yes - it was KC Santa and I'm sure you know why he was there!  Well, I had a talk with him about all the KC kids in Room 2 and I felt proud telling him about how much you have all learnt this year.

Then I came home and I had a look back at this photo from the beginning of the year. 

My goodness, you have all grown so much. 

We have had children leave our class this year and Luca, Te Rangimarie and Kingi have joined us.  I hope Danika, Tayla and Zeita-Maree have had a good year like we have! 

I feel quite sad that Room 2 are moving on to their new classes but I know that you are definitely ready for the middle syndicate and that makes me feel better.  In fact it makes me feel proud of you all over again!

I hope you remember what you have learnt about KC this year.  You know that KC kids keep on growing until they are KC adults and... they are the best people to know! 

They think, they learn and they are kind.  They look after themselves and they like to join in and give things a go!

Keep practising all those things and you will grow up to be an awesome KC!! 

You can even practise during the holidays. These KCs are keeping fit while they're not at school. They will do some reading and writing and maths as well, so they don't forget what they've learnt!

Our Fun Day at Tauhara Park

Our writing about the Hiab

Room 2 went outside to have a look at the builders working.  We saw a hiab truck.  It lifted an office up and it placed the office down.  At the end Eva got a jacket and helmet on.

Today my class and I went to see the work that was the rebuilding Room 9 and 10.  When we got on to the grass on the field, it was cold and windy. After that we saw workers put walls and wallpaper into a big container.  When we were looking at the builders we saw hard hats on their heads to protect their heads.  When we were looking at the pink string I realised that was going to be the toilets!
After that we drew pictures of the hiab truck that had the office on it.  We were looking at the office and when the builders put the chain on, it lifted the office. We were watching the office and when it was coming down the workers carefully put it on the ground. After that we went back into class to have our morning tea.  When we had finished our morning tea we had a little play on the playground. Before that Eva put on a jacket and a hard hat. After that we wrote about what we saw.

In Room 2 we have been sketching. Today we have sketched a cool truck.  This truck has a crane on the back of it. It is really cool.

Room 9 and 10
I saw some men on the roof and men on the ground. I saw a lady doing something by the toilets.  I saw five windows and one was open. I saw some ladders. One was for the two men on the roof and one was just leaning on the wall of Room 9 and the last one I saw was one for a man who was taking something down from the roof inside.
This morning Room 2 are doing sketching again because we want to see if there is some different work on Room 9 and 10 and the toilets! We sketched where the toilets are.  We started sketching. Oh wait!
A man is walking where the toilets are! He told us there was a hiab truck coming soon because they would like an office.  It's coming....  We're waiting... Still waiting... Yay! It's here!

Friday Lunchtime Ukulele class!

Every Friday lunchtime Eva has a ukulele lesson.  We were lucky enough to have the tutor and some seniors join Eva to play a song for us. Wow, Eva you have done a lot of learning at ukulele classes!

Eva  designed a  scarecrow.  Her reading group read Scarecrows from space!  In  the book  it  looked

hard to make one.

Reading activity

We read a book. I worked really hard. 

I worked with a buddy. 

It was not that hard. The book was about a spider who wanted spots. 

The spider looked at what ladybird had but not what the spider had.

At reading time we had to do a reading activity on the Ipad, about our book called The spider who wanted spots. We did who, where, when and what. We chose a background that looks like a spider web and we also wrote some sentences so people knew what the story was about. When we had  finished we showed Mrs Scott and she was super happy!      

Watching Worms

On Friday morning Room 2 spent some time with some slippery slimey visitors.  They came from Mrs Scott's garden and they were hiding in the dirt! We turned the lights off because they don't like the light. They were ...  squiqqly, wiggly worms!

Some of the things we have learned about worms are...

Isaac - casts are earthworm poo!
Daniels - Worm Fact - the skin is covered with a coating called mucus
Emily, Te Rangimarie - Worm fact - the North Auckland worm can grow up to 1.3 metres long.
Max - worms create tunnels as they move through the soil.

Molly - tiger worms prefer to live in compost heaps and worm farms.

We read on the internet that there is a worm that can grow six and a half metres long!
